| | It was Thursday night, 12th of June. The "In A Box" exhibit kicked off. I guess everyone was happy, I smelled the fuel of creativity that night. People told us, that alternative/urban art will not persist in this region, again we proved them wrong. Out of the 250 people who confirmed their attendance, 480 flocked their way in the opening night alone. So much buzz in such a short time of preparation.
We congratulate the artists and designers who participated. James, Lina, Vivek, Renata, Avi, Robotandsparks, Diya, Musashi, The Brownmonkeys: Blacksheep, Muhaisnah 4, Artlifeflip, Dozign, Pinkblot, Suavecito, Prettymonkey and Dogboy. Guest artists from Bastard Project and {ths} was there as well. And those other artists that I forgot their names.
Thanks for all the special individuals who managed to get there despite of their busy schedule. You are our heroes actually. Our mentors and creative directors, to Vincent of Tonic. The Cliche Brothers, Vinay and Vivek, and Traffic.
This is one hell of an event. Peace y'all.
More pics to post. Watch out! |

Come june 12th, we'll try our best to indulge you in an art scene that you thought didn't exist here in dubai. We've gone ahed and gathered some of the most brilliantly talented artist that's out there in the local/international scene, to conjure up a massive show that's bound to send you drooling for more. There's going to be the sale of 30 odd limited edition MDF boxes(yeah that's right boxes!), put up for sale (with a very nominal price tag ,we promise.),upon purchase of one of these boxes, you end up with a year's subscription of cliche (+ back copies) and a signed letter of authenticity by the respective artist. There's also going to be a sale of limited ed- canvas and poster prints up for grabs + a wide variety of visuals to keep you occupied :)We're transforming a 7000 sq.mt gallery in to our overy own zine, with an amalgation of some massive creative energy. So do drop by if you're around the vicinity to suck on some lollipops, drool over some boxes, purchase a couple of prints, OR simply just to stare at the random hoax installations we've got going on that night. The exhibit goes on till june 19 2008, so incase you miss out on the opening,do drop by over the weekend. For more info : http://www.viatraffic.org/en/cliche-de-mystifies-urban-underground-art/Traffic/04 431 8494 OR +9177374461www.viatraffic.org/We'll see you all there.thank you for your support.much respect.peace!
A time lapse video of the Dogbox. Done in approximately 23 man hours with a lot of love and mess around. The box was made of MDF board so it was quite heavy. Made of used clothes, accessories and acrylic. I've been thinking of ways how to transform a piece of box (furniture) into a cuddly piece of creature plus the functionality of a furniture. Easy to transport and cute to play with. It serves as a friend as well. If you are in Dubai, I invite you to attend "In A Box: a showcase of boxes, prints, posters and a zine" This is only one box out of the 30 boxes that will be exhibited. Leading local and foreigh artists will be exhibiting their works together with the Brownmonkeys. Exhibit opens on June 12, 2008 7:30 PM until June 19 2008, Traffic Design Gallery. Presenting, the robot mold that will tear your emotions apart. Designed by our buddy/tonician Rob, this robot will soon to hit the market by storm. Of course, the Brownmonkeys and Tonic will get its initial debut of this funky robotic DIY toy. Hey! Are you up for it? Here's more about Rob:
This is a sort of a video documentary of my journey through my learning techniques. With the handy cam at hand, we can now see the progression of learning, find faults and sharing it with the world. I am not a professional bass player, so excuse me for some mistakes. Plus it's fun making a video, so why not?
